Badin Music Boosters Minutes
June 11 , 2008

Present:  Mike Moore, Mona Mitchell, Larry Beer, SueAnn Beer, Renee Cifuentes, Scott Roth, Suzanne Roth, Ann Paxton

Treasurer

An updated report on deposits/payments was presented.

Also presented was a recap showing profit of our larger fundraisers.  Concessions are huge. Ann suggested adding the candle sale, as it brings in a considerable amount of funds as well.  No Celebration deposit as of yet.  This is usually around the time it appears.

Fundraising

Ann suggested the idea of selling “Congratulations, Class of ‘09” yard signs this coming school year.  Off the top of his head, Larry offered they may cost around $20 to make, 2-sided.

Ann is willing to run the Yankee Candles Sale again.

We again discussed the dances, since they didn’t do as well as in past years.  Perhaps if we decide to do it again, it would be presale only.  It could also depend on how well dances are doing at the school in general (this was a slump year for dances altogether).

Other ideas discussed:  a Battle of the Bands (sell T-shirts and offer food), Karaoke Night, Spaghetti night w/ music from our music dept.—this may be a good idea to do before a basketball game, as families are generally rushed b/w work and games.

Concessions

We really, really need a concessions chair.  There was a little discussion about breaking up all the jobs involved in being the chair, and asking for specific help with those tasks.  Anyone interested in helping in any capacity, please get in touch w/ Mr. Moore (jobs include: shopping for items somewhere like Sams or Costco; coordinating workers for the home games; transporting food items to the concession stand; working concessions; offering freezer space --believe it or not, this is a big one!)

Chicago Trip

To review: the music students will be going to Chicago on May 1-3, 2009.  The first installment/deposit was sent out to hold the trip.  The $50 deposit required from each traveler will be due in August.  The next installment will be October. There isn’t much to work on regarding the trip until school starts, and we have a better idea of a class list.  Both Mike and Scott will keep track of student accounts.

Summer Items

            July 4 Parade Info:

Practice for the parade will be July 1 and July 3 from 9-Noon.  FYI:  The DCI show is July 2.  The parade is at 2:00pm, so summer uniforms will be worn.  We may need to purchase more polo shirts (Boss Awards is who we used for the polos.).

Guard camp will be here at BHS.  Mike is checking with Cecelia regarding dates.

To review: Band camp will also be at BHS Aug 11-16 (Mon-Sat) from 8a-Noon, as well as Aug 18-20 (Mon-Wed) from 6-8pm.  All will be in-house, so the fee will be minimal.

Contest show music is available for your listening pleasure at: music.badinmusic.org/

Fall Items

The Contemporary Performing music class has four sections, totaling about 129 students.

Regarding the feeder schools and a search for someone to teach band at them:  Mike has a job description to post.  This person will need to be endorsed by BHS and go through the usual requirements of the Archdiocese.  There are four feeder schools to consider, with the possibility of Mother Theresa.  Mike to keep us posted.

Some technology funds are being used to upgrade the Little Theatre, including a screen, projector, and some items to make it all more “plug & play” friendly.  This will cut down significantly on Mike’s time hauling stuff around and hooking things up.

Bonding Activity for Band Members?

They usually have a pool party at the Mitchell’s after band camp.  Usually pictures fall on that day as well.

All are welcome to attend the next Music Boosters meeting—7pm, date to be announced.
